These regulations govern the submission of all works for consideration for the Animal Liberation Film Festival (ALFF) 2026 Season. You ("Submitter") are required to read the following regulations carefully to confirm your understanding and acceptance prior to submission.

01. Submission Deadlines

Only films submitted to the correct category, accompanied by the correct fee, and received by the allocated deadline will be considered. ALFF reserves the right to disqualify a submission and forfeit fees should the submission not meet all requirements.

02. Definitions

Short Film: Runtime of 40 minutes and 29 seconds or less (including credits).

Feature Film: Runtime of 40 minutes and 30 seconds or more (including credits).

Experimental: Films with an absence of narrative and/or abstraction within the structure. Not for non-linear fiction.

Note: If a film is submitted to the wrong category based on runtime, ALFF will change the category. Shorts submitted as Features will not be refunded the difference. Features submitted as Shorts will require a fee upgrade before consideration.

03. Payment

  • Must be made in USD via FilmFreeway.
  • Is non-refundable and cannot be waived (NO EXCEPTIONS).
  • Films submitted without payment will be disqualified.

04. Preview Formats

ALFF accepts online screeners only (Vimeo or YouTube via FilmFreeway). Physical discs or files sent via email will not be considered.

Password Changes: If you change your screener password, you must notify ALFF immediately. Films with broken links or incorrect passwords will be disqualified.

05. Eligibility (2026)

To be eligible for consideration:

  • Films must have been completed after 1 January 2025.
  • Films must not have been available commercially online in Victoria, Australia, prior to 2 November 2026.
  • Non-English films must have English subtitles.

06. Rights & Clearances

It is the sole responsibility of the Submitter to secure permission from the rights holders of any copyrighted content (music, footage, etc.) included within the film.

ALFF will not be held responsible for unauthorized inclusion of copyrighted materials. If a claim arises, ALFF reserves the right to withdraw the film from programming.

07. Work-In-Progress

WIPs are accepted only if the film is at picture-lock stage and submitted during the FINAL submissions period.

ALFF will not review updated versions. The file you submit is the file we judge. If selected, the final version must be ready by 16 October 2026.

08. Selection & Exhibition

Notification: All Submitters will be notified by the end of 31 July 2026.

Exhibition Copy: If selected, you must provide a DCP (24fps) by 16 October 2026.

Screenings: ALFF agrees not to hold more than four (4) physical screenings of any selected film.

Decisions: ALFF’s selection decisions are final. No critical analysis or feedback will be provided
